St. Theresa Catholic College 2023 Cultural Day

The year 2023 cultural day celebration of St Theresa Schools had come and gone, but the memories linger.

With the adoption of the programme at the Parent- Teacher Association (PTA) in October 2022, the division of both the pupils and the students into six geographical zones of North Central, North East, North West, South East, South West and South South, including the appointment of an Organising Committee in January 2023, the stage was set for the event. All the zones commenced their meetings and started mapping out strategies to come out tops in the ends. The very short term and the loaded classwork did not help matter.

In order to infuse academic touch to the exercise, Management hired an erudite academic in Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos, Prof. Osita C. Ezenwanebe, as the judge. She was to come with a senior lecturer in dancing. Preparations we're in top gear as the zones had been informed about areas the judge would assess, especially march past, presentation of the zone's cuisine and dancing.

At last, the D-day, 30th March 2023 arrived. Expectations were high as zones had put in final touches to their preparations. The day's activities commenced with the closing mass, officiated by the Associate Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Moses Akaeme. Immediately after, all attention was shifted to the school premises as the zones had appeared in resplendent costumes depicting them. The arrival of the August visitor, Prof. Ezenwanebe, added colour and glamour to the event, and which started immediately. The Master of Ceremony was at his best as his performance kept the arena alive all through. There were the march past of the zones taken alphabetically, each trying to outwit the other, then the presentation of the cuisines. This was where the academic exhibited her professionalism, as she went round with her team to taste the menus. Finally, the dances took the centre stage. This was where pupils and students members of the zones exhibited their dexterity.

The grand finale was when the results were announced. The judge started from the rear to announce the last zone, then other and finally the winner zone, the NORTH-EAST. The whole arena arena erupted with joy, especially the winners. The stand up song for the champions was played by the DJ, the disc jockey, thus ushering the exciting event to a joyous end. The pupils, students, their friends from other schools joined in dancing to the attractive music by the DJ.
